How Working With a Perinatal Therapist Can

Improve Your Mental Health

As a perinatal therapist, I counsel women who have a history of depression and anxiety. Maybe they have gone through depressive episodes in the past or anxiety is a constant companion.

Maybe they have been to postpartum depression counseling or postpartum anxiety counseling before after a previous pregnancy. For many of my clients, they really want to have children, but fear that their mental health issues will be difficult to manage during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

The following are things I often hear in my office:

  • I can barely take care of myself, how could I take care of a baby?

  • What if my depression/anxiety mess up my baby?

  • I don’t want to pass the burden of my mental health issues onto my kids.

  • My last pregnancy was so hard on me physically/emotionally, I don’t know if I could go through that again.

  • What if I can’t do this?

How Can Pregnancy Therapy Help?

Pregnancy therapy can help you navigate the complexities of maintaining your mental health during pregnancy.

Rather than waiting until you feel overwhelmed or hoping it resolves on its own, working with a perinatal therapist can give you the support and confidence you need to take care of yourself.

What Can I Expect from Pregnancy Therapy?

You can expect a safe space to process your emotions, express your fears and doubts and gain the skills and support you need to take care of yourself during this time of rapid change.

When you work with a perinatal therapist, you learn how to manage your mood and anxiety while remaining confident that you are taking good care of your child and yourself.

How to get started with a

Perinatal Therapist?

It is important to remember that we are not defined by our mental health issues. You can be a great mom and also experience depression or anxiety. You just need the right system in place to help you manage it all, and pregnancy therapy and a perinatal therapist can be part of that system.

I am a perinatal therapist in San Jose, CA. I have a hybrid practice and offer both in person therapy and virtual therapy throughout all of California. To get started, you can schedule a free 15 min phone consultation.
